In Bed With... Trinny Woodall

We’re getting into bed with Trinny to talk bedtime habits, late-night scrolling, the essentials on her bedside table and what really keeps her awake. From podcasts to rubbish trucks, her answers are refreshingly relatable.

Q:

What's on your bedside table?

A:

Usually about eight books that I want to get to, although it takes me a while! There’s also my Take Back Time Overnight Hand Treatment, a picture of Lyla, a sleep mask and your Dreem Distillery Night Drops.

Q:

What time do you really go to bed?

A:

Ten minutes to twelve, twelve o’clock or ten minutes past twelve. It’s very, very difficult for me to get to bed by 11:30.

Q:

Do you scroll before bed?

A:

I scroll. When I scroll, that’s when I go to bed at ten past twelve. I try to limit my scrolling to 15 minutes and then I put on a podcast. My ideal bedtime ritual would be to get into bed by eleven, do 15 minutes of scrolling, turn on a podcast and be asleep by quarter to twelve. But I’m about 20 minutes off that routine right now.

Q:

One thing that transformed your sleep?

A:

I’d say a mixture. Taking magnesium threonate at night with valerian and tryptophan has been quite good for me, because I follow Andrew Huberman and Huberman Lab. I’d also say trying not to eat too late, using your CBD drops and occasionally doing a meditation. That helps as well.

Q:

What keeps you up at night?

A:

If I’ve had a very exciting day, it takes me a while to unwind. If I’ve been answering emails too late or running up and down the stairs doing things, I’ve just got too much energy inside my body. It’s the busyness of the day. Worry probably does keep me up, but I’ll pretend it’s something else!

Q:

Your sleep non-negotiable?

A:

Sound. I really can’t bear sound. Twice a week, we have the rubbish trucks come down our little street in London at about 6:15 in the morning. Sometimes they come earlier to put all the rubbish in the middle of the street, and I hear every single thing. So it’s either window open and listen to them, or AirPods in and don’t listen to them, but then I worry about that electricity in my ear. That’s where I’m at!
