CBD, or cannabidiol if you want to give CBD her full name, is one of 120 different known cannabinoids that can be extracted from industrial hemp. The hemp plant is from the same botanical family as cannabis but the two plants are grown differently. That botanical family is called cannabis sativa. The main difference between hemp and cannabis is their THC content – THC is short for Tetrahydrocannabinol, it is the psychotropic cannabinoid found in cannabis. Cannabis will have more than 0.3% THC and hemp will have less than 0.3%.
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) are the two main cannabinoids that occur naturally in the cannabis plant. CBD is non-intoxicating, which means it does not change your state of mind, whereas THC is the main psychotropic compound found in the cannabis plant which cause the ‘high’.
There is no CBD found in the seed of the cannabis plant, so if a product lists cannabis sativa SEED oil, this is actually very different. Hemp seed oil is beneficial as it is rich in essential fatty acids and minerals but it is not to be confused with the more expensive compound CBD.
CBD drops tend to be blended with a carrier oil which can range from hemp seed oil, to coconut oil, to MCT oil. Dreem Distillery uses MCT oil in our Night Drops.
